Steak 'n Shake restaurant drive thru in Illinois denies Deaf woman service
Karen Putz, who is deaf, was denied service at a Steak 'n Shake restaurant drive thru in Illinois. Find out what the company has done to address this incident.
Yeah, pretty rotten, right? I had a discussion about this with a friend. She's deaf, though oddly enough, she shows a bit of sympathy for the discriminator. Why? Because she believes that even in this day in age, there are many people who don't know how to react in the presence of those with differences or disabilities and feel awkward about it. While that's true, it doesn't excuse people from being insensitive jerks to those who are not like them.
What I got from this story is that the manager or whoever didn't serve that woman in the drive-thru window just didn't want to be bothered with assisting someone with a disability. And that is clearly against the law.
They're not gonna get away with this- at least they might think she won't make a big deal out of this, but what they did was really wrong, and this news gets out- well, it'll hurt their image.
this is ridiculous for shutting her out like that.
